Empress RDBMS Offers Cross-Platform Integration With Windows NT® |
Operate Between UNIX and PCs, Utilize 3rd Party Tools, Handle Multiple Data Types
Greenbelt, MD - Empress announces the availability of Empress RDBMS V8.10 for Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Server and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. Empress and Windows NT offer users key features such as scalability and high-performance. In addition, The Empress RDBMS operating on Windows NT provides two-way communication between Windows and UNIX based environments via Empress's ODBC Interface. Users of Empress RDBMS on Windows NT can easily develop in both PC and UNIX-based environments, utilize Microsoft and other third-party software tools to access Empress databases, and take advantage of the ability to work with differing data types in a heterogeneous computing environment.
Empress provides seamless cross-platform integration between PC and UNIX-based environments. Developers can write platform independent applications since applications can access databases operating on different platforms. In addition, users of applications built on Empress RDBMS can transparently work with information without having to know anything about database programming, the form of the data needed, or where on a network data is stored.
A variety of third-party software packages can also be used to access Empress databases on machines running Windows NT or UNIX. Among these tools are MS Access, MS Excel, MS Query, MS Word, ColdFusion, Lotus 123, Lotus Approach, PowerBuilder, Rogue Wave, S-Designor, Visual Basic, and Visual C++.
"Working in heterogenous environments that include a variety of PC and UNIX-based platforms has become commonplace. Empress offers its RDBMS on Windows NT and many popular UNIX operating systems," states Njai Wong, Director of Product Development. "Empress knows that cross-platform functionality has to exist between different computing environments."
To facilitate working in heterogeneous computing environments, Empress easily handles different data types between Windows NT machines and UNIX machines. The Empress RDBMS will convert machine-specific data types into generic data types that are readable by Windows NT and UNIX. Through this feature, data in Empress databases will be useable no matter what heterogeneous platform mix exists.
Empress Software develops and supports the Empress Relational Database Management System. The Empress RDBMS V8.10 is one of the most powerful and cost-effective development databases especially designed for embedded systems developers operating on Unix, Windows or real-time environments. Empress has been utilized successfully in many fields including image and voice management, space exploration, flight simulation, telecommunications, medical systems, telephony systems, geographical information systems and network management.
